Mapping the Accessibility of Medical Facilities of Wuhan during the COVID-19 Pandemic

In December 2019, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic attacked Wuhan, China. The city government soon strictly locked down city, implemented a hierarchical diagnosis and treatment system, took series of unprecedented pharmaceutical non-pharmaceutical measures. residents’ access to medical resources consequently potential demand–supply tension may determine effective treatment, for which travel distance time are key indicators. Using Application Programming Interface (API) Baidu Map, we estimated from communities facilities capable treating COVID-19 patients, identified service areas those as well. results showed significant differences in loading across facilities. accessibility peripheral was inferior central areas; there spatial inequality within districts; amount community healthcare centers insufficient; some were underserved regarding walking distance; could be potentially overloaded. This study provides reference, context understanding aspect relevant mobility under emergency regulation, re-examining coordination improve future planning utilization at various levels. approach can facilitate policymakers assess facilities, identify low-accessibility areas, deploy new It also implies that analysis rapid even only with open-source data.
